Job Summary

CARE Pakistan requires the services of a Nutrition Assistant. The incumbent will coordinate Village Development Committees (VDCs), Self Help Groups, Lady Health Workers, Community Nutrition Workers, Community Health Workers, and other Project Support Community-based Structures under the “Improved Nutrition Status of Mothers and Children” to popularize the CMAM messaging and smooth understanding and interventions of the CMAM activities focusing the Community Outreach and Out-Patient Therapeutic Program. The Nutrition Assistant is a field-based technical position responsible for directly engaging with communities to screen and register children (6-59 months) and provide services like (admissions in OTP, deworming, MNP, etc., and ensure follow-ups as per the recommended protocols and referral of children for other services). Meanwhile Nutrition Assistant will also be coordinating local government departments, and Civil Society Organizations to implement community outreach and outpatient therapeutic program (OTP) activities and lead the team activities. Key of the tasks for the position holder may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Job Responsibilities and Tasks

1- Program Planning and Coordination (35% of time)

  • Develop the monthly work plan and align field activities with the line manager's input.
  • Mentor the team in preparing and aligning the field plan. 
  • Work closely with public departments/programs and community-based workers to support nutrition and health interventions. Disseminate updates and information within the team and community.
  • Plan and participate in national/international awareness campaigns and events.

2- Field Operations and Data Management (30% of time)

  • Conduct anthropometric measurements of target beneficiaries.
  • Register children with severe acute malnutrition in OTP programs and ensure follow-ups.
  • Refer cases with medical complications to stabilization centers and maintain records.
  • Track defaulters and absentees and report field-level issues.
  • Maintain records of supplies received and ensure proper usage of equipment.
  • Provide field-level data for compilation and submission.
  • Manage beneficiary database using Nutrition Information System and reporting formats.
  • Keep project records in both hard and soft formats.

3- Community Engagement and Capacity Building (30% of time)

  • Counsel parents and caretakers on treatment protocols and ensure compliance.
  • Deliver Social Behaviour Change Communication sessions and nutrition messages to beneficiaries and community members.
  • Conduct capacity building sessions for teammates, community structures, and parents.
  • Mobilize communities for early detection of malnutrition.
  • Engage community members in various project-related activities.
  • Ensure design and implementation of outreach activities.

4- Other responsibilities as assigned (5% of time)

  • Any other tasks or responsibilities based on organizational and programming needs as assigned by the Line Manager.

A) Qualifications (Know How)

Required

The minimum qualification requirement is Intermadiate (completion). A bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences will be desirable.

B) Experience/ Technical Skills 

  • A minimum of 2-4 years of professional experience as a Nutrition Assistant/Team Leader.
  • Operational experience in targeted locations in the Previous experience working on integrated projects of WASH, Education, and Nutrition.
  • Knowledge of Village Development Committee/Self Help Groups/Clubs/Volunteer Community-based structures, methodology and operations.
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience of working with donor-funded projects, INGOs will be preferred.
  • Good understanding of basic concepts of the CMAM & IYCF and its approaches
  • Understanding of approaches to WASH, and Education (Formal and Non-Formal) 
  • Understanding of basic formulas and references of Caseload Calculations
  • Flexibility to work in a diverse multicultural team with respect for local culture and norms.
  • Ability and experience of coordinating with public departments, community representatives, and union council-level stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Flexible attitude towards receiving feedback from the team, stakeholders, and community.
  • Knowledge of issues relating to community involvement and empowerment.
