Purpose

The GBV Community Mobiliser supports the implementation of community-based GBV prevention and awareness activities through outreach, engagement, and information sharing.

 

The role promotes safe, ethical, and culturally appropriate communication on GBV issues, supports identification of individuals at risk, and facilitates safe referrals to GBV services without engaging in case management.

Key Responsibilities

Community Outreach & Awareness

  • Conduct GBV awareness and prevention sessions using approved materials.
  • Engage women, men, youth, and community leaders to promote positive norms and prevention.
  • Support formation and facilitation of women and adolescent groups where appropriate.
  • Ensure all engagement is culturally appropriate, gender-sensitive, and respectful.

Safe Identification & Referral Support

  • Support safe and ethical identification of individuals who may require GBV support.
  • Provide clear and accurate information on available services and referral pathways.
  • Facilitate safe referrals to GBV Case Workers through established procedures.
  • Ensure confidentiality and survivor safety during all community interactions.
  • Avoid collecting sensitive case details or personal disclosures.
  • Avoid asking probing or sensitive questions that may put individuals at risk.

Community Engagement & Trust Building

  • Build trust within communities to promote safe access to GBV services.
  • Promote inclusion of women, men, and vulnerable groups in outreach activities.
  • Ensure respectful, non-discriminatory, and survivor-centred interaction at all times.

Reporting & Coordination

  • Maintain simple records of outreach sessions and activities conducted.
  • Submit regular updates and reports to the GBV Field Supervisor.
  • Coordinate with the GBV Field Supervisor and relevant team members during outreach activities.
  • Share community feedback, concerns, and emerging risks with the GBV Field Supervisor.

Safeguarding & Ethical Conduct

  • Adhere strictly to safeguarding, PSEA, confidentiality, and Do No Harm principles.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe and ethical manner.
  • Immediately report protection concerns or risks through established mechanisms.

Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties related to the position, as reasonably assigned by the Supervisor, in line with organisational policies and operational requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Preferably Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or a related field
  • Preferably 1–2 years of experience in community mobilisation, outreach, or protection-related work.
  • Strong community engagement and facilitation skills.
  • Fluency in local languages is required.
